MEET BENNY
Councilman Dr. Benjamin M. (Benny) White is a retired Lieutenant Colonel who served 22 years in the Army as a Field Artillery Officer, leading and mentoring soldiers throughout his military career before retiring from active duty in 2008.
Dr. White has held significant teaching and leadership roles, including an Assistant Professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point and as a Professor of Military Science at Wheaton College. He continues to contribute to leadership development through the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Joliet West High School and as a mentor and volunteer in Naperville and surrounding communities.
In addition to his military and educational contributions, Councilman White has demonstrated strong leadership in local governance and community service. He served on the Indian Prairie School District 204 Board of Education from 2012 to 2017, holding the position of Board Secretary. From 2015 to 2017, he also served on Naperville’s Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. Elected to the Naperville City Council in 2017, Councilman White was re-elected in 2021.
Benny's involvement extends to various local boards and committees, including the Naperville Downtown Advisory Committee, the Naperville Development Partnership, Naperville Community Television (NCTV-17), and Loaves and Fishes. He is also the founder of Naperville Neighbors United, an organization dedicated to promoting unity in the community.
A former college football player and avid sports fan, Benny enjoys cheering on his alma mater, West Point, and his hometown team, the Kansas City Chiefs, as they rack up Super Bowl wins.
Dr. White holds a Bachelor of Science in Management Studies from the United States Military Academy at West Point, a Master of Science in Kinesiology from Indiana University, an MBA from Webster University, and a doctorate in Values Driven Leadership from Benedictine University.
Benny and his wife Kim, have been residents of Naperville since 2005. They have two adult children.
